Tesco’s Scan As You Shop service is an in-store experience that lets customers build their basket on a handheld device during their shopping journey so that they can keep a close eye on their budget and skip the queues at checkout. Since late 2021, we’ve brought the solution entirely in house, and we’re now live in over 800 stores across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, with plans to move into Central Europe this year. The engineering team owns the handset application, which is built on Android OS and consumes data from our Retail Platform enterprise APIs, as well as a few different technology components that support the solution. All the engineers in the team ultimately take ownership of both the frontend and backend systems in our remit. We’re looking for a new team member, preferably with a background in Android development, that can help us evolve and scale our systems as we navigate a wide range of challenges in the context of store technology. We’re a friendly team that takes collaboration and agility seriously, looking for the right person to help us move into an exciting new chapter!
