We are seeking an experienced Clinical Training Specialist to cover the London area. The Clinical Training Specialist (CTS) role is a “Training and Education expert” in Home Therapies. The CTS partners with referring units to teach patients and healthcare professionals best practice in Peritoneal Dialysis (PD). The CTS works to fulfil the demand for patient training to ensure that patients are expertly and appropriately trained on Vantive’s therapies in order to optimise outcomes and to minimise avoidable technique failures.

The CTS role works in alignment with the renal commercial team to identify and support units with healthcare professional education and upskilling on peritoneal dialysis therapy and devices. Critical to the success of the role is the use of innovative evidence-based teaching practices, to teach and educate staff and patients in order to improve technique and therapy success. This role is primarily based in an allocated region and Education Centre (EC), with flexibility to meet the demand for patient and staff training. The focus will be on small group training in the community, EC or NHS trust sites of patients and/or healthcare professionals, with some need for face-to-face training in patients’ homes.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach and empower patients in self-management of PD by providing high quality evidence-based patient training to patients following referral from NHS hospitals at EC, in the patient’s own home or hospital as required.
  • Educate, advise, and train healthcare professionals on best practice patient training methods for PD, adopting a train the trainer approach where needed, to maintain and develop skills in the referring hospitals.
  • Support on-site education of junior healthcare teams in basic and essential skills for managing patients on PD therapy.
  • Work closely with Renal Therapy Specialist to assist with education plans for specific identified hospitals in line with agreed growth plans.
  • Complete high quality training records, document training provided and feedback to hospital staff.
  • Provide innovative refresher and follow-up training support for patients.
  • Ensure product knowledge remains current and evidence-based, making time to read journals and attend conferences.
  • Attend and contribute to Regional Business Meetings to ensure activities are aligned and market knowledge is transferred as appropriate.
  • Provide patient and customer feedback and act as a subject matter expert to sales and marketing teams on designing and improving new/existing materials based on patient and customer needs.
  • Support internal training initiatives as subject matter experts to drive clinical excellence amongst the Baxter commercial teams.
  • Support the EC Managers in maintaining Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations and be inspection ready.
  • Safeguard the wellbeing of service users and staff.
  • Regular auditing to monitor the quality of our education service and address any concerns and complaints to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Participate in governance processes identifying learning opportunities.
  • Provide a flexible responsive training resource that can be utilised in NHS trusts.
  • Provide high quality patient training via a remote platform should the patient need this service.

Requirements:

  • Nursing degree or equivalent Nursing qualification required. (Essential)
  • Currently listed on NMC register (Adult) (Essential)
  • Evidence of post registration study. (Essential)
  • Computer literacy skills – Office 365 (Essential)
  • Demonstrate strong teaching and communication skills, both written and verbal, to support training and education services with patients and customers (internal and external) (Essential)
  • Able to work effectively both independently and within a team environment (Essential)
  • Flexible approach to problem solving (Essential)
  • Confident and clinically credible (Essential)
  • Driving License (Essential)
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience (Advantage)
  • An interest or experience of teaching and educational processes; in particular, teaching patients (Advantage)
