We work primarily in the offshore renewable energy industry, supporting clients who design, install, and operate offshore infrastructure. Our geophysics expertise is in high demand, driven by our technical excellence, innovation, and reputation for delivering reliable ground models and survey interpretation for high-profile projects.
We’re looking for a Senior Project Geophysicist to join our UK team. This role can be based in our Newcastle office or remote, depending on location. Your role will involve validation of contractor deliverables, geophysical interpretation of seabed and sub-seabed data, and the integration of geophysical, geological and geotechnical data.
You will:
- Lead the planning, delivery, and quality assurance of geophysical projects.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage client relationships.
- Conduct and oversee geophysical interpretation, reporting and ground model development.
- Write and review technical and operational documents such as Desk Studies, hazard assessments, and survey specifications.
- Supervise and mentor junior geophysicists, supporting their development.
- Represent Cathie in client meetings, workshops and (occasionally) offshore as a Client Representative.
- Contribute to technical tool development, best practice initiatives, and R&D projects.
- Engage in business development by identifying opportunities and supporting proposals.
You’ll be working closely with senior technical colleagues and project directors, helping to ensure each project is delivered safely, on time, and to the highest technical standard.
We’re looking for someone with:
- A degree in Geophysics, Geology or a related Earth Science.
- At least 5 years’ experience in the offshore renewables or oil & gas industry.
- Experience leading or managing the delivery of geophysical services and ground modelling studies.
- Expertise in seabed and sub-seabed interpretation, geophysical workstation workflows and integration with geotechnical and geological datasets.
- Experience using IHS Kingdom, Petrel, OpendTect, or DUG, as well as software such as Sonarwiz, QGIS or ArcGIS.
- A high standard of report writing, communication, and project delivery.
- Good working knowledge of Quaternary geology and geotechnical engineering principles.
- A proactive mindset and desire to contribute to knowledge sharing and technical growth.
Nice to Have:
- Chartered status or progress towards it.
- Offshore client representative or survey experience.
- Familiarity with nearshore, intertidal or landfall survey methods.
- Experience using Python, Power BI, or Tableau.
- Awareness of relevant industry standards for geophysical survey methods.
At Cathie, you’ll join a team that challenges conventional methods, encourages curiosity, and puts innovation at the heart of our offshore energy solutions. We offer flexible working, a collaborative culture, and the opportunity to contribute to projects that shape the future of offshore infrastructure.

- Competitive salary package and bonus
- Private healthcare and dental care
