An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced individual to join a well-established, fast-paced group of companies operating within the automotive and specialist engineering sector. This is a key leadership role supporting the Finance Director with day-to-day operations, month-end processes, and group-level reporting. You will be instrumental in driving financial performance, improving processes, and ensuring strong financial governance across multiple trading entities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Management and Reporting
    • Lead and deliver month-end processes in conjunction with the Financial Accountant, including preparation of monthly Board Packs and supporting commentary.
    • Prepare divisional budgets, forecasts and weekly cashflow/profitability projections in collaboration with business leaders.
    • Ensure financial data is accurate, timely and aligned with group reporting requirements.
    • Monitor and analyse divisional financial performance and provide insights to support operational and strategic decisions.
    • Maintain oversight of audit processes and ensure financial controls are followed across the division.
  • Business Partnering and Commercial Support
    • Provide financial insight to senior management teams across the division, supporting key decision-making and operational planning.
    • Work closely with functional and site leaders to identify risks, opportunities and cost-saving initiatives.
    • Participate in senior management meetings at site level, acting as the finance lead for strategic and operational discussions.
  • Systems, Process and Risk
    • Own and support the integration process between the new divisional DMS system and group finance software.
    • Contribute to the design and implementation of improved financial processes and reporting tools, including dashboards and real-time data reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, audit requirements and internal control processes.
  • People Leadership and Development
    • Line manage the Assistant Management Accountant, including setting objectives, providing regular feedback and supporting development.
    • Delegate tasks and responsibilities appropriately, ensuring the team are given the opportunity to develop new skills and grow within their roles.
    • Build strong working relationships with finance and non-finance colleagues across all levels of the business.
    • Promote a positive team culture based on trust, continuous improvement and shared accountability.

In order to be successful in the role, you will need:

Essential

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent), or qualified by experience in a comparable role.
  • Proven experience in producing monthly management accounts and analysing large, complex data sets.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting software and financial systems.
  • Demonstrable experience in leading or supervising team members, including performance management and development planning.
  • Strong delegation skills and a proactive approach to developing others.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience in financial business partnering or supporting commercial decision-making.
  • High standards of accuracy and attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Experience working across multiple sites or functions within a group or divisional structure.
  • Experience managing remote team members or supporting development of cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with DMS and finance systems integration or implementation.
  • Experience of change management or leading financial systems/process improvements.
  • Proficiency with Power BI or similar financial reporting tools.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring junior staff as part of a structured development programme.
