The role will be focused on leading and championing environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, and continuous improvement at the site by implementing policies, managing risks, driving waste and resource efficiency, and engaging teams to achieve ambitious environmental goals.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Act as the on-site Environmental expert, leading the implementation of environmental policies and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and corporate requirements, and lead initiatives to deliver the site’s carbon and sustainability targets.
  • Proactively seek and lead waste reduction and efficiency projects within manufacturing to drive measurable improvements.
  • Coach front-line teams in environmental incident investigations and embed learnings into future practices.
  • Serve as the site’s Environmental representative and main contact for the Environment Agency, including managing the Environmental Permit.
  • Drive the site environmental plan, conduct internal audits, and manage/report on energy and water budgets.
  • Sustain and manage compliance with ISO 14001 accreditation.
  • Lead environmental risk management using Aspect & Impact assessments and collaborate with Manufacturing and Distribution teams to mitigate risks.
  • Champion and role-model environmental initiatives and behaviours across the site.
  • Apply root cause problem-solving to reduce environmental impact.

Essential Experience, Training and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Environmental Science, or related technical field is desirable (not mandatory); a master’s degree is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to engage and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Track record of driving behavioural and cultural change in a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
  • Relevant certifications (NEBOSH, IEMA, or equivalent) are advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience leading waste reduction projects and delivering efficiency improvements.

Candidate profile:

The ideal candidate will be hands-on, resilient, and proactive, with the energy and attitude to engage with frontline staff and drive a positive environmental culture. While technical knowledge is important, practical problem-solving skills and the ability to lead by example are prioritised over formal qualifications.
