Environmental Health Services Manager (RP0087)

37 hours per week (Hybrid working)
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council serves both the economic powerhouse of Welwyn Garden City and the historic town of Hatfield, famous for its association with the aerospace industry. We are passionate about creating stronger communities and a cleaner, more attractive environment for tomorrow. You will have a central role to play as you take ownership of our environmental health portfolios – and help to take us to the next level.
In this newly created position, you will drive profound change and take the necessary decisions to ensure that we operate at the cutting edge of best practice. Reporting to the Assistant Director (Public Realm), you will set stretching key performance indicators and ensure their attainment whilst getting the most from every member of your team. In particular, you will act as an expert adviser to senior managers, cabinet members and councillors whilst ensuring we deliver excellent services for private sector housing, food safety, health and safety, licensing, taxis and environmental protection.
Main Responsibilities
This will involve deploying substantial budgets and managing resources to make Welwyn Hatfield better, safer, cleaner places to live, work and invest. Consequently, we need the best: an experienced, passionate environmental health practitioner with an impressive record in senior management and the drive and determination to deliver real transformation.
The Ideal Candidate
Qualified to degree level in a relevant discipline, you will bring expert knowledge of appropriate legislation and best practice, deep understanding of the challenges facing service provision and a high level of commercial acumen, backed by inspiring leadership and development skills. Above all, you will share our passion for realising positive change and be ready to go the extra mile to accelerate our journey towards excellence.
