We are currently recruiting for a Cook.

Hours of work: 24 hours per week

Location of role: Margaret Roper House, Southport

About us:

Margaret Roper House is a residential home that offers nursing care for people living with enduring mental health problems. We offer a wide variety of support including:

We pride ourselves on creating a warm and friendly environment for those that live here. It has a welcoming feel and friendly staff. There is also an onsite activities co-ordinator to ensure residents are active and engaged in and outside of the home. We promote independence with a self-serve kitchen and private dining area which welcomes friends and families to spend time with their loved ones. Alternatively, the home offers beautifully cooked meals by an onsite chef 7 days a week. Individualised support is offered to all residents including resident meetings, one to one sessions and different forums to share opinions and views. Margaret Roper House staff go the extra mile for the people they are looking after. They enable people to live a healthy and fulfilling life. Life at Margaret Roper House is described as calm, friendly, welcoming, safe and a happy place to live by residents, families and staff.

Main Duties:

  • Duties will include skilled cooking activities connected with the full range of meals, or catering for specific events, stocktaking, security of the kitchen at end of the shift.
  • To prepare all menus after consultation with the Senior Staff of Home and residents;
  • To prepare food to a high standard for each menu;
  • To have food prepared for the residents at the appointed time;
  • To keep a record of all menus served to the residents;
  • To ensure that there is good portion control and waste food is kept to a minimum;
  • To ensure that all orders are processed in good time to the suppliers;
  • To ensure that records of all supplies are correct;
  • To check all incoming food for quality standards;
  • To ensure that food stocks are rotated.

Person Specification:

Qualifications (Desirable):

  • City & Guilds Certificate in Cookery.
  • Food hygiene certificate.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • To have worked in a large kitchen environment
  • Basic cooking skills for an establishment of up to 30 persons
  • Ability to deal sensitively with the resident client group
  • Ability to cater for specialist diets
  • To maintain a close working relationship with other members of the staff team
  • To respond flexibly to changing needs
