Our specialist practitioners act exclusively for the police service, representing a diverse range of forces across England and Wales. As the largest dedicated police legal team in the country, our lawyers have been involved in some of the most high-profile and significant cases involving the police service over the last 15 years.

We are currently recruiting for a Paralegal to join our Police team in Guildford, Liverpool, Leicester, or Manchester. As a Paralegal, your primary role will be to provide assistance to senior case handlers in the Police Claims team. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of claims against the police. Your key duties will include:

  • Assisting fee earners with case management, legal research, drafting witness statements, reports to clients, and court preparation
  • Attending client meetings and court hearings to support fee earners
  • Assisting with instruction of Counsel and experts
  • Responding promptly to correspondence and enquiries from clients and other parties
  • Achieving financial and chargeable targets
  • Supporting business development activities
  • Handling a caseload of low-value property damage claims

This list is not exhaustive; other duties within the role's scope may be required. You will also ensure compliance with Weightmans and client policies, working in line with our values.

Previous experience as a Paralegal and a genuine interest in the role area are essential. The role is varied; flexibility and adaptability are important. You should also have:

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Ability to meet deadlines and targets
  • Teamwork and initiative
  • Knowledge of CPR procedures and technical ability
  • Experience with Defendant claims and police work is a bonus
