As demand grows for smarter, cleaner energy solutions, this is your opportunity to make a real impact - helping shape the future of heat networks and supporting the UK's journey to net zero.

Your Role

As a Consulting Engineer in the District Heating Design team, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering technically sound, timely, and cost-effective design solutions. Working across a variety of innovative projects, your work will directly support low-carbon heating in both new developments and existing buildings. You will be part of a supportive and expert team, reporting to a Senior Engineer and working collaboratively with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders. This is a dynamic role combining technical engineering, stakeholder management, and project leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to heat network design from feasibility to detailed design stages (RIBA Stages 3–4).
  • Perform load and network modelling, equipment sizing, and plant room schematics.
  • Produce detailed technical specifications and documentation (e.g., controls philosophy, CDM risk assessments, water quality specs).
  • Engage with clients, developers, and project teams through regular meetings to manage design progression and risks.
  • Support delivery quality by collaborating with the QA team and overseeing contractor compliance during commissioning and handover.
  • Mentor Graduate Engineers and contribute to their technical development.
  • Participate in an accelerated training programme to support your growth within the sector.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • 2+ years’ experience in building services consulting, ideally with exposure to communal or district heating systems.
  • Strong understanding of heat network lifecycle - design, construction, commissioning, and operational challenges.
  • Skilled in technical design delivery across heating and hot water systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Desirable

  • Experience with AutoCAD, QGIS, EnergyPro.
  • Hands-on design experience with energy centres, networks, and building connections.
  • Familiarity with CIBSE CP1 and relevant regulatory guidance.

We’re looking for someone actively working toward Chartered Engineer status, passionate about low-carbon energy, and eager to grow into a technical leader in the field.

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of the UK’s heat decarbonisation journey.
  • Work with a purpose-driven, expert team.
  • Access industry-leading training and mentorship.
  • Make a real, measurable impact on sustainability.
  • Opportunities for progression toward senior and chartered roles.
