This is an exceptional opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking team that believes education should be inclusive, personalised, and impactful. The role is well-suited for someone who thrives in small classroom settings and is motivated by seeing learners, often those who have previously disengaged from education, build confidence and skills that can change the course of their lives.

About the Role

As a Maths Tutor, you’ll deliver tailored Maths sessions to learners aged 16–24 who are working towards Functional Skills or Entry Level qualifications. Many of these learners may have faced previous barriers to learning, including Special Educational Needs (SEN), social disadvantage, or a lack of confidence in academic settings. This role isn’t just about curriculum delivery, it’s about engagement, building trust, and creating a safe space where learners can rediscover a love for learning. You’ll work closely with a small, dedicated team of tutors, teaching assistants, and managers to deliver high-quality, learner-focused provision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver Functional Skills and Entry Level Maths lessons tailored to individual needs
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages learner participation and progression
  • Support learners with varying abilities, including those with SEN or those classed as hard to reach
  • Differentiating resources and teaching methods to suit a range of learning styles
  • Conduct regular assessment and tracking of learner progress, providing feedback and guidance
  • Collaborate with support staff and the wider teaching team to provide a wraparound learning experience
  • Maintain accurate records of learner attendance, progress and achievements
  • Attend team meetings, CPD sessions, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives

What We’re Looking For

This role will suit someone who is not only confident in their subject knowledge, but also genuinely passionate about supporting learners who may not have had a positive experience in mainstream education.

Essential Requirements

  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS, PGCE, CertEd, or equivalent)
  • Proven experience delivering Functional Skills or Entry Level Maths in a post-16 or alternative education setting
  • Strong classroom management and the ability to foster a calm, respectful learning environment
  • A learner-first mindset, with patience, empathy and adaptability
  • Strong organisational, administrative, and communication skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people

Desirable

  • Experience working with learners with SEN, EHCPs, or those from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Knowledge of EHCP reviews, learning support planning, and behaviour management techniques
  • Familiarity with using digital tools to support learning and track progress

What’s On Offer

  • A stable, full-time teaching role with excellent work-life balance
  • 4.5-day working week, including remote admin time and early finish on Fridays
  • Option to work term-time only for the right candidate
  • Supportive and values-driven team with a strong focus on inclusion and learner success
