The Pre-Production Engineer, reporting into the Engineering Manager, plays a pivotal role within our organization, bridging the gap between the Engineering and Projects departments. This individual will be responsible for ensuring seamless coordination and effective communication between these two critical functions. As a key member of our team, the Pre-Production Engineer will own and drive various aspects related to Sage Manufacturing, Bill of Materials (BOM) management, cost reduction initiatives, work order creation, and design reviews.

Responsibilities:

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a liaison between the Engineering and Projects departments. Attend project meetings, contribute insights, and facilitate smooth project transitions. Facilitate the handover of projects between departments.
  • Sage Manufacturing Ownership: Take ownership of Sage Manufacturing within the department. Generate work orders for production based on project requirements. Coordinate with the operations and projects departments to ensure timely execution of work orders. Monitor work order progress and address any bottlenecks or issues.
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) Management: Create, update and maintain accurate BOMs for all products. Work closely with design engineers, procurement, and production teams to ensure BOM accuracy and completeness. Regularly review and update BOMs based on design changes, component availability, and cost considerations.
  • Design Reviews: Participate in design reviews with the Engineering team. Provide valuable input on design concepts, manufacturability, and potential improvements. Collaborate with designers to address any design-related challenges. Analyse manufacturing costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Component Feasibility Assessment: Evaluate the feasibility of manufacturing components based on design specifications. Collaborate with design engineers to ensure manufacturability, considering materials, processes, and tolerances. Provide feedback on design modifications to enhance manufacturability.
  • Leveraging Historical Product Knowledge: Draw upon historical product knowledge to aid the Engineering department in developing new products and innovative solutions. Share insights from past projects, lessons learned, and successful approaches to enhance current designs.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in pre-production, manufacturing, or process engineering.
  • Knowledge of multiple methods of manufacture.
  • Experience of managing sub-contract processes.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in using manufacturing software and tools.
  • Familiarity with Sage 200 and Sicon Manufacturing systems (preferred).

Hours of Work: Monday – Thursday 07:30 – 16:00, Friday 07:30 – 13:00, 37.5 Hours per week.
