In partnership with sportscotland, West Lothian Council wish to appoint 2 0.6 FTE Active Schools Coordinators. The successful candidate will be appointed on an initial fixed term contract until 31 March 2027. The Active Schools and Community Sport team aims to increase activity levels by ensuring there are more opportunities to participate in sport and more people delivering opportunities in schools and the wider community.
West Lothian Council are looking for a dynamic, well organised individual with excellent communication skills to work with schools, to maximise school sport opportunities, across West Lothian.
The Active Schools Coordinator will:
- Ensure there are more and higher quality opportunities to participate in sport before, during lunchtime and afterschool.
- Build capacity through the recruitment, retention and development of a network of volunteers to deliver sport.
- Motivate and inspire children and young people to participate in sport.
- Improve the equality, diversity and inclusiveness in, and through, Active Schools programmes.
- Provide support for individuals with identified wellbeing needs through sport and physical activity programmes.
Requirements
Essential
- Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline, GTCS registered or have equivalent relevant workplace experience.
- Extensive experience of engaging with children and young people through sport and physical activity in education, sport, health, community, leisure and/or recreation industries.
- Proven project management experience.
- Clearly demonstrate the ability to engage with key partners and maintain good working relationships.
- Clearly demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and work on own initiative.
- Demonstrate a keen sense of co-ownership for work, shows resilience under pressure and is able to develop different types of partnerships to reflect the nature of the work.
- Confident in using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and a range of social media.
- Full and valid driving licence and access to transport.
- Possess personal motivation, which inspires a strong commitment to working towards the concept of Active Schools.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Enthusiastic and highly motivated with the ability to motivate others.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong influencing and negotiating skills.
- Ability to build trust and devolve responsibility and resources to partners/colleagues.

This post is considered Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011 preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
