I'm now looking for a PCB Layout Technical Assistant to join our clients growing engineering team and support the development of robust, reliable systems used across critical naval platforms.
About the Role:
As a PCB Layout Technical Assistant, you'll support the full PCB design lifecycle - from approved schematics to production-ready data packs. Working in a fast-paced, high-integrity environment, you'll collaborate with engineers across disciplines to deliver layouts that meet exacting electrical, mechanical, and manufacturability standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the creation of PCB layouts using Altium Designer
- Perform component placement, routing, and DRCs under engineering guidance
- Prepare manufacturing data packs (Gerbers, BOMs, PnP files)
- Manage and maintain PCB library components
- Liaise with engineers to ensure layout intent matches functional requirements
- Support configuration control and documentation of PCB design data
- Assist in continuous improvement efforts using Kaizen principles
- Provide support during communication with external manufacturers and assemblers
What We're Looking For:
Essential:
- Level 3 qualification (or higher) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
- Familiarity with PCB layout tools (preferably Altium Designer)
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Desirable:
- Experience with real-world PCB layout and manufacturing
- Knowledge of IPC 2221 or equivalent layout/fab standards
- Understanding of configuration control and design lifecycle processes
- Exposure to external CEMs or manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with tools like Zuken Cadstar and DFM principles
