We are looking to recruit a talented and motivated Vehicle Technician to join our London Hire Ltd Engineering Team, maintaining our range of buses, vans and cars of all shapes and sizes. The role includes regular servicing, maintenance and repair work, inspections, diagnostic and MOT preparation. The successful candidate will have the ability to carry out these duties efficiently, reliably and safely to a high standard within our workshop, with the opportunity to develop their skills & knowledge within the transport industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out programmed vehicle Safety Inspections, servicing, maintenance, and repairs in-line with DVSA's Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness. Workshop and on-site when needed.
- Attend vehicle breakdowns as and when needed and carry out repairs where practical.
- Maintain contact with Engineering/Fleet department to confirm work needed and repairs completed.
- Liaise with Workshop Manager and Rental Operations ensuring passengers are transported safely during breakdowns and vehicle transfers.
- Comply with site instructions and Health & Safety regulations whilst on company & customer premises.
- Use PDA/Tablet to ensure all defect reports, service sheets and other associated compliance documentation is completed correctly and sent to the office in a timely manner.
- Use of electronic email and diagnostic systems.
- Identify damaged items which are non-fair wear & tear and are re-chargeable to the vehicle user.
- Report any incident, occurrence, faulty equipment to the Health & Safety Manager that may be dangerous or contravene the Health and Safety regulations.
- Road testing of serviced and repaired vehicles to confirm “safe and ready for operation”.
- Ability to diagnose and repair basic electrical system faults.
- An understanding of hydraulic systems.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified and experienced Motor Vehicle technician (bus or commercial vehicle experience desirable but not essential).
- Full UK driving license. D1 or D category preferred. Or be willing to undertake D1/D driver training (subject to terms and conditions).
