Our client is looking for a trainee chef on a permanent basis, located at their beautiful wedding venue in Corbridge. Having your own transport is essential for this role due to the location.
Salary: £25,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week
- Wednesday 7am - 7pm
- Thursday 8am - 1pm
- Friday 1pm - 9pm
- Saturday 7am - 6pm
- Sunday 8am - 12pm
Roles & Responsibilities
General skills:
- Basic knowledge of all sections (larder/starters, garnish, meat and fish, sauce, desserts)
- Ability to produce good quality basic food and good knife skills
- Understanding of health and safety
- Understanding of basic food hygiene practices
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong team player qualities and basic team management skills
- Good multi-tasking skills and an understanding of prioritising tasks and personal time management
- Good level of numeracy and the ability to multiply and carefully follow recipes
Personal traits:
- Enthusiasm to develop your own skills and knowledge plus those around you
- Adaptability to change and willingness to embrace new ideas and processes
- Ability to work unsupervised and deliver quality work

Main Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepare vegetables, meats and fish with guidance from senior chefs
- Ensure ingredients and preparation is ready for service for more senior Chefs
- Measure/weigh dish ingredients and portion sizes accurately
- Deal with deliveries and stock rotation
- Assist other section chefs during service
- Cook and prepare elements of high-quality dishes with guidance
- Help with deliveries and restocking
- Contribute to maintaining kitchen and food safety standards
- Cleaning stations and kitchen equipment throughout the day and at the end of service
Qualifications/Licences/Certifications/Experience:
Essential:
- Experience in preparing food
- Experience working well in a team and communicating with the other members of staff
- Basic cooking skills
- Food Hygiene Level One
- Level 1 and 2 Food Safety Awards
- Minimum 6 months relevant experience
- Awareness of manual handling techniques
- Awareness of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) and chemical safety
- Experience of kitchen equipment
- Experience of dangerous equipment such as knives
- Competent level of English spoken and written
