Role Overview
We are seeking a Locum Advanced Practitioner Sonographer with specialised expertise in neck ultrasound and ultrasound-guided Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) to support a dedicated clinic at Wirral University Teaching Hospital. This is a short-term locum assignment for 1 day per week (8 hours per day) over 6 weeks, with a scheduled list of 14 patients per clinic day. This focused and rewarding role is ideal for a confident, autonomous sonographer looking to contribute specialist expertise to an established head and neck service.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostic ultrasound assessments of the neck, including thyroid glands and cervical lymph nodes.
- Carry out ultrasound-guided FNAs with precision and in accordance with safety protocols.
- Provide immediate, high-quality diagnostic insights and concise clinical reports.
- Ensure compliance with all infection control measures, consent processes, and data documentation standards.
- Efficiently manage a 14-patient list within the clinic day.
- Liaise with referring clinicians and support integrated patient care.
Essential Requirements:
- HCPC or NMC registration.
- Postgraduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound (PgCert/PgDip or equivalent).
- Significant independent experience in neck ultrasound and FNA procedures.
- Proficient in reporting and familiarity with British Thyroid Association classification systems (U1–U5).
- Strong clinical judgment and excellent communication skills.
