Job Summary: As the Director of Engineering UK, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our culture of learning and curiosity. Working closely with leaders in product and data, you’ll be instrumental in aligning strengths with impact across our engineering teams. You’ll communicate vision, provide leadership and navigate direction for multiple engineering teams while championing our various communities of practice. This leadership role involves fostering collaboration and prioritisation within an innovative technology company that’s part of a global holding company. Our product is a sophisticated data platform that connects various internal and external technology environments to deliver a world-class suite of applications to our business partners and their customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, support and recruit engineers, both internal and outsourced contributors, to deliver a unified data utility product
- Collaborate with Product and various departments on a technology strategy that aligns with business goals
- Coordinate closely with Program Management on cross-domain processes and dependencies
- Manage the engineering budget and allocate resources effectively to support the company's strategic priorities
- Cultivate outsourced relationships to provide clarity and align expectations around deliverables
- Participate in high-level system architecture design and provide input on critical implementation decisions
- Mentor and coach to develop a culture of engineering excellence and continuous learning
- Facilitate clear, actionable solutions for complex technical challenges
- Establish and guide standards for autonomy, code quality and best practices
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Proven ability to design organisations that prioritise strengths, are driven by values and consistently deliver business value
- Experience with domain driven design and/or division of work through intentional dependencies
- Creative problem-solving skills, particularly in finding innovative solutions within constraints
- Deep knowledge of multiple programming languages, frameworks, and emerging technologies - .NET preferred
- Adaptability and commitment to continuous learning in a rapidly evolving tech landscape
- Strong understanding of software design patterns and architectures, with emphasis on federated and distributed frameworks
- Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex ideas to diverse audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 12 years of engineering architecture experience
- Startup experience highly preferred
- Background in launching and scaling new software products, preferably in fintech or insurance industries
- Proven experience with B2B software product portfolios
- Acquisition integration experience a plus
Other:
- Some Europe travel is required, and some international travel (Eastern US) is anticipated.
- Primary working hours in overlap of UK and Eastern US time zone.
