We are looking for a Technical Superintendent to join our client in Gourock on a permanent basis. The role includes overseeing the safe daily operations of maintenance and repair, budgeting, survey schedules, on-board general assessment of vessels, inspections, and docking, ensuring full compliance with all applicable regulations, coordinating the activities of the crew, and maintaining the vessel in accordance with class and statutory requirements.
As Technical Superintendent, you and the Marine Superintendent will be the primary shore-based point of contact for the assigned vessels. You are required to provide dedicated support to the vessel on-board management team.
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTPreference would be an STCW III/2 Chief Engineer (no limitations), equivalent or higher qualification. Candidates with lower qualifications who can demonstrate knowledge and experience with Ro-Ro vessels would be considered.

Responsible for the safe operation and technical reliability of assigned vessels in line with internal standards as developed by the Standards and Performance Department and in compliance with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.
- Responsible for vessel maintenance in line with Class and Statutory requirements and for direct correspondence with Classification Society and Flag Administration Surveyors
- Control and management of the vessel budget including cost tracking and accurate forecasting in coordination with Finance team
- Vessel service availability and reliability in line with Service Level Agreements
- Control and monitoring the water, chemical, lube-oil and bunker quality and consumption
- Ensure the assigned vessels are keeping records of the functioning and condition of all instruments and equipment on-board
- Using companies planned maintenance and defect reporting systems and mechanisms
- Check all vessels records and documentation including engineering logs, safety documentation, certification, technical files, etc., ensuring that contingency plans and other manuals are fully updated
- Monitor the inventories of mooring equipment, safety equipment, lifesaving, firefighting equipment, and portable instruments in collaboration with the Marine Superintendent
- Supporting Crewing with technical advice and guidance on engineering qualifications and manning levels
- Line management of the most senior engineer position on board assigned vessels in accordance with line management matrix
- Responsible for overhaul planning, execution, and subsequent return to service of vessels within the fleet
- Compile and provide documented reports upon completion of dry docking, including summaries of works performed, operational budgets, and actual expenditures
- Ensuring that all technical incidents, defects, and audit findings are investigated and analysed, and corrective action is effectively implemented
- Provide management cover of other vessels within the Fleet Group, as required to support colleagues during events such as sickness, annual leave, overhauls etc.
- Active participation in reviewing the Company Management System, in collaboration with the vessel’s crew, to drive continual improvement and enhancement of policies and procedures
- Accountable to the Senior Technical Superintendent (MV)
- Liaise with Head of Fleet, Senior Technical Superintendent and internal customers on technical and operational matters including vessel performance
- Provide out of hours duty on call cover for the vessels based on a duty rota
- Undertake any other Technical related assignments as and when required
- As a member of one or more Emergency Response teams, it is expected that exercises are attended, annual leave is communicated with deputies assigned and full familiarisation is maintained with the relevant emergency response procedures and protocols
Salary £59,000 - £70,000 per annum (depending on experience). Benefits include: Car allowance, 37 days annual leave (pro-rata), staff travel pass and an industry leading pension.
