As an engineer in our 24/7 team, you will play a pivotal role in providing advanced, out-of-hours technical expertise on our Solaris and AIX servers to maintain a high level of support service. You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues and customers to troubleshoot issues, enhance system performance, and ensure excellent service delivery. You’ll also help drive the professional development of team members and contribute to process improvements that enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction. This role is critical in supporting service-level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs), especially during our emergency support coverage outside of standard working hours.

This is a shift-based role as part of a 24/7 support team, which includes nights, weekends, and public holidays as part of a rotating schedule. Due to security clearance requirements, candidates must be a UK national, hold a British passport, have single nationality status, and have resided in the UK for over 5 years.

What will I be doing?

  • Delivering exceptional customer service and acting as a key technical point of contact during out-of-hours emergency support, 24/7.
  • Supporting disaster recovery (DR) testing across multiple virtual platforms.
  • Remediating security vulnerabilities identified by the compliance team.
  • Performing planned change work during off-hours maintenance windows.
  • Assisting in the setup, configuration, and support of Linux and Windows servers as needed.
  • Contributing to innovation and development of new or improved infrastructure products and services.
  • Continuously developing expertise across a wide range of infrastructure technologies.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide technical support in infrastructure services, responding to incidents and assisting with operational tasks.
  • Contribute to the successful implementation of infrastructure projects and scheduled assignments.
  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot infrastructure systems, ensuring ongoing reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve infrastructure efficiency and solve complex technical challenges.
  • Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation, including incident logs and configuration records.
  • Apply specialized technical knowledge to address infrastructure-related issues and ensure rapid resolution.
  • Follow established best practices and standards to deliver consistent and high-quality infrastructure services.
  • Utilize your technical skillset to manage and resolve infrastructure incidents effectively.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated technical experience within enterprise infrastructure environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly in Unix-based systems.
  • Proficiency in shell scripting, system diagnostics, and server administration tools.
  • A mindset of continuous learning, keeping up to date with industry advancements and emerging technologies.

Other Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree in a related field is a plus.
  • Experience working with Oracle Solaris, AIX, or related enterprise Unix platforms.
  • Familiarity with security standards, compliance, and vulnerability remediation processes.
  • Previous experience working in a shift-based or out-of-hours support environment is advantageous.
