Following its recent acquisition by SLR, Wardell Armstrong now forms part of a leading global environmental and sustainability consultancy working on projects across the world from over 100 offices. The Ecology team is highly successful and due to continued success in delivering ecology/environmental oversight to construction projects, we are looking to appoint experienced ecologists with a main focus on Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW).

Overview of team / business area: The joining of SLR and Wardell Armstrong brings together a team of approximately 200 ecologists distributed across the UK and Ireland. The ecology team works alongside several other environmental professionals within the Firm, including planners, archaeologists, arboriculturists, landscape architects and engineers.

The role will be open to applicants seeking 6-month, 12-month or permanent contracts. Project work will be varied, and there will be a strong focus on renewable energy and infrastructure. Successful applicants would be willing to stay away from home for an average of four nights a week, sometimes including Sunday nights.

In this role you will:

  • Be an integral member of our client’s delivery team;
  • Work alongside ecologists and engineers;
  • Be responsible for ecology data collection;
  • Be responsible for the design and implementation of ecology mitigation (e.g. management plans, non-licensed method statements, Licensed method statements);
  • Be responsible for delivering pragmatic and timely solutions to ecological constraints;
  • Procure and engage with subcontractors.

About you:

  • Hold a degree in ecology or a related discipline;
  • Hold a white CSCS card;
  • Have a minimum of 12 months’ experience of the same type of work;
  • Be ‘qualifying member’ status or higher of CIEEM or other relevant institute;
  • Have a flexible approach to work and willingness to develop new ecology field skills, including working during unsociable hours;
  • Be willing to work away from home for 3-4 nights a week (expenses paid);
  • Be self-motivated with strong communication skills, be able to work as part of a team;
  • Hold personal species licenses covering bats/GCN/otter (desirable but not essential);
  • Hold a full UK driving license and have access to a vehicle.
