Job Description The Legal Counsel is part of the Together Group Legal team and is responsible for proactively managing a varied legal workload with a particular focus on legal issues arising from enforcement and recovery of secured lending. Working closely with the Head of Litigation, Senior Legal Counsel and other members of the litigation team, you will help determine and implement the right strategic approach on managing the back book by conducting security reviews, advising on our recovery strategy, issuing statutory demands and identifying/ management of potential negligence and title insurance claims. You will work closely with external solicitors but will also manage cases in house. Duties include: Providing strategic support to the business (with a particular focus on recovery of commercial loans) by providing high quality, commercially focussed insolvency and restructuring advice, advising on contentious disputes and providing account level support for the recovery and enforcement of impaired debt. Proactively managing a varied caseload, by providing timely commercial focused advice in order to improve the level of recovery and reduce the time to recover. Conducting case analysis and preparing succinct summaries of key information/legal risks. Conducting security reviews across portfolio accounts and advising on recovery strategies. In conjunction with the Recoveries teams managing recovery action, including possession claims, receivership and administration appointments, dealing with injunction applications and title issues, recovering shortfalls via bankruptcy of money claim process, negotiating settlements with customers and advising on any disputes with customers. Instructing and overseeing external legal suppliers and insolvency practitioners. Qualifications If you have some of the following experience, we are keen to speak to you! Insolvency and restructuring experience. Knowledge of secured lending would be a big plus. Experience of enforcing security. Strong drafting and case management skills. MI collation and trend analysis. Ability to analyse presented facts and succinctly summarise key legal risks and offer a commercial perspective to solutions. Good communicator at all levels; upwards, downwards and with business stakeholders. Desire to expand skill set and experience into additional areas of law.
