About the role
Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a fantastic opportunity for a Site Engineer to join our team on the Highways A57 Link Road scheme, this role will be based at Ashton-under-Lyne, Manchester. Balfour Beatty Highways maintain, manage, and operate major highway networks across the UK and support local authorities creating communities where people want to live, work and play. We provide high quality asset strategy, management, and planning consultancy services to a wide range of public and private sector customers. We provide specialist, reliable, sustainable, and creative advice for asset management planning and implementation in the UK. We put our customers first and prioritise completing schemes safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
What you'll be doing
As a Site Engineer you will coordinate a section of works, working alongside a team of Site Engineers and Graduate/Apprentice Engineers. In addition to this you will lead and control site works, according to a specific discipline, for both self-delivered and sub-contract works. Some other key responsibilities will be:
- Maintain comprehensive records of site works
- Carry out setting out and dimensional checks and understand limitations of instruments and surveying methods
- Maintain survey records and produce as-built drawings
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings (reinforcement, drainage, earthworks)
- Supervise graduate / trainee engineers
- Manage specific site operations, including subcontractors
- Input into weekly programme and produce short term schedules
- Monitor construction activities for progress against programme
- Contribution to production of Permit to Dig, including briefing to the workforce
- Carry out onsite Safety Inspections and Hazard Identification
Who we're looking for
You will have the following:
- Highways projects experience
- 2-3 years experience with a Tier 1 contractor
- Obtained HND/HNC qualification in either Civil Engineering or Construction Management
- Valid UK driving licence and CSCS card
- Able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility
Desirable:
- Basic understanding of temporary works
- Basic understanding of STATS and Utilities
- Basic understanding of lifting operations
- Working towards professional qualifications
