We’re working with a specialist professional services information business investing in content and data transformation, and they’re now looking for a lead data journalist to transform company practices and to shape a growing team of analysts and researchers. This is a strategic role for someone whose experience combines newsroom instincts with data expertise. You’ll lead the charge in making sure the company’s growing data assets are well-governed, high-quality, and driving value across content, research and product.
If you’ve ever wanted to build something meaningful at the intersection of journalism, data and strategy, this is an opportunity to do just that. You’ll work across content, research, and product, as well as data science function and research teams. While initially a solo role, this position is expected to scale into a global function.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the editorial division’s use of data, from solving sourcing and governance challenges, to storytelling and analysis.
- Building a robust framework for internal data quality, governance, and reuse.
- Training and upskilling journalists to build their confidence in working with data independently.
- Partnering with the product and content teams to transform data into subscriber tools and insights.
Key requirements include:
- Significant experience in a newsroom as a data journalist or responsible for integrating data reporting across products.
- Strong technical capability (Python, R, SQL).
- Experience managing complex datasets and turning them into coherent, meaningful output.
- A clear communicator, able to explain methods, mentor colleagues, and advocate for best practice.
