What you’ll be doing

Working closely with stakeholders across the project, this role involves developing and implementing fire safety governance arrangements that ensure a safe transition into operations while meeting all regulatory and business requirements. A key responsibility is shaping the operational readiness strategy and ensuring that compliant fire safety plans are aligned with each project milestone. The role includes supporting the delivery of fire hazard analyses and fire risk assessments alongside subject matter experts, as well as contributing to the design and rollout of fire safety training across the operational workforce. Maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with HPC construction teams and the wider EDF fire safety community will be essential to promote aligned safety practices. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the development of inspection, testing, and maintenance programmes, implementing housekeeping and emergency response arrangements, and managing fire safety documentation. You’ll be responsible for coordinating fire response needs analyses, working collaboratively with various teams to ensure comprehensive input from all relevant functions. This role also provides critical operational fire safety input into facility and equipment design while helping foster a proactive and robust fire safety culture across the site.

Who you are

You’ll need a strong understanding of UK fire safety legislation and relevant codes of practice, with the ability to apply these across varied operational settings. Experience with Fire Risk Assessments, Fire Emergency Response Plans, and supporting nuclear plant readiness, including WANO Pre-Start Up Reviews, is essential. You should have a solid background in developing and implementing fire safety management systems, preferably within high-hazard or industrial environments. Strong communication skills are key, as you’ll be working with a wide range of stakeholders and contributing to peer reviews and safety documentation. A Level 4 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessments or similar qualification is required, along with accreditation with a recognised fire risk assessor body (IFSM, IFE, FRACS). Additional qualifications in fire protection or risk management, and experience delivering fire safety training, will be beneficial. Knowledge of fire safety strategy in complex environments and a commitment to promoting a robust fire safety culture will help you make a significant impact in this role. If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!
