We are currently seeking a Senior Lecturer in Geography to contribute to the leadership and development of Geography and Environmental Management, providing effective academic and professional leadership in postgraduate and undergraduate programme and module delivery.

As a Senior Lecturer, you would be expected to plan, design, and deliver a range of high-quality teaching and learning activities across Geography and Environmental Management programmes that align with fields of geography such as climate change, biogeography, coastal geography, geomorphology, river science, and geo-hazards. You will also engage with curriculum enhancement, student support, and teaching excellence, fostering innovation and academic integrity in all aspects of programme delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver engaging lectures, seminars, and practical sessions across programmes and modules in Geography and Environmental Management, applying innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and assessment procedures across the breadth and depth of the subject area.
  • Successfully initiate and lead funded research projects to contribute to the knowledge base of your area of expertise, and maximise policy, media, industrial or community impact of research.
  • Extend, transform, and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship to learning, research and external activities.
  • Develop successful working relationships with external partners, agencies, professional bodies and other stakeholders to maintain existing and develop new collaborative work.

The School of Science, Engineering and Environment (SEE) is a centre of discovery and innovation. With a broad portfolio across computer sciences, engineering, built environment and human and natural sciences, we are one of the largest schools within the University, home to over 6000 students and over 370 colleagues. Our Research and Innovation Centres work together to collaborate around the world’s greatest challenges including Net Zero, Climate Change and Resilience, Healthy Living and Industry. Our focus is on translating our pioneering research into real-world impact for people and industry and our research is recognised as world leading. The Geography and Environmental Management (GEM) team delivers a range of well-respected programmes at undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels. Our programmes carry accreditation from various professional bodies, including the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and the Royal Geographical Society (RGS). Current undergraduate teaching is centred around Environmental Management and Geography. Postgraduate teaching includes programmes in Environmental Assessment and Management, Sustainability, Health and Global Environments and Safety, Health and Environment.
