Our Client is seeking an experienced and dedicated Quarry Manager to oversee the daily operations of their quarry site. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a solid understanding of quarry processes, and the ability to ensure compliance with safety regulations. The Quarry Manager will be responsible for managing staff, equipment, and resources while maintaining high standards of productivity and efficiency.
Join one of the largest privately-owned waste management companies in the South of England and a leading demolition specialist nationwide. Their 350 strong team operate from circa ten recycling facilities across multiple counties and contracts across the UK. With over 160 lorries, their recycling operations cover the South East and they have the capacity to process over 1m tonnes of waste and recycled aggregates every year.
The business has grown year-on-year into a multi-disciplined provider of demolition, remediation, earthworks, waste management, recycling, virgin and recycled aggregates and ready-mix concrete. Key Responsibilities- Ensuring that you are getting the right support and resources to maintain efficient operations.
- Ensuring the production of recycled products are in line with the WRAP protocol and highway or earthworks specifications.
- Uploading and maintaining all relevant information needed for reporting and record keeping including daily site records and all weekly returns.
- Evaluating operational performance and ensuring the effective utilisation of operational resources (e.g. plant and people).
- Ensuring that all plant and equipment are working and maintained in line with company policy and that all defected plant and machinery are recorded and reported to the plant and maintenance department in a timely manner.
- Monitoring stocks and record keeping.
- Assisting management with the identification, planning and delivery of projects and site improvements.
- Developing and implementing safe systems of work, including risk assessments and method statements.
- Ensuring all operations carried out comply with all current HSQE legislation and company management systems and policies.
- Undertaking site safety inspections, supporting HSQE and client audits and ensuring that any non-conformances are closed out in a timely manner.
- Providing visible HSQE leadership whilst promoting and progressing safe working practices across all operations to minimise incidents and/or injuries.
- Ensuring all compliance assessment and monitoring reports are reviewed and actioned, whilst liaising and communicating with the Environment Agency and planning authority on a regular basis to maintain compliance.
- Ensuring all data returns are submitted to the Environment Agency or planning authority in a timely manner.
- Recruitment of skilled operators to ensure the capability exists to meet site requirements.
- Managing and motivating teams, setting clear expectations and ensuring feedback on individual performance is provided both informally and formally where required.
- Ensuring all operatives and site staff are fully trained and competent to complete their daily tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
- CIWM WAMITAB MPQC NVQ in Quarry management (desirable).
- IOSH Managing Safely.
- First Aid Certificate (3 day).
- Fire Marshall (desirable).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Extensive experience in a similar role in site management within the aggregates or waste management sectors.
- Knowledge and understanding of wash plants, crushing and screening operations.
- Knowledge and understanding of all relevant health and safety, environmental and planning regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of environmental permits, waste acceptance criteria and waste returns.
- Planning and organisation skills to deliver operational excellence and efficiency.
- Ability to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to effectively utilise a range of software including the MS Office suite.
