West Lothian is seeking to appoint an independent Chair for the Child Protection Committee. As Chair you will ensure the Committee fulfils its duties to a high standard and in accordance with national guidance. You will lead the Committee taking forward multi-agency child protection strategic developments. You will ensure a continued focus on improvement supported by robust quality assurance and self-evaluation processes. You will ensure effective approaches to multi-agency learning, reflection and training are in place. You will ensure engagement with children and their families to improve practice and lead the Committee in its communications and engagement. You will contribute to the provision of strong strategic public protection leadership, linking with other relevant strategic groups and ensuring the work of the Child Protection Committee is aligned to local GIRFEC practice.

You will be expected to provide the West Lothian Chief Officers Group with assurance on the effectiveness of multi-agency working in relation to child protection practice. You will also represent West Lothian at national level ensuring the Committee continues to participate in and remain informed of national child protection developments.

We require a highly motivated and credible individual with proven leadership abilities. You should be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of multi-agency public protection practice and leadership. You must have substantial experience of work at senior, strategic and operational level, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and have a successful track record in leading strategy. You should also be able to evidence understanding of the relevant legislation, guidance, policy and practice within which Child Protection Committees operate. You should be educated to degree level with a relevant professional qualification.

This post is considered Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011 preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
