Balerno High School is a fully comprehensive, non-denominational high school situated in the southwest of Edinburgh. We are proud to be a school community built on strong relationships and a commitment to success. Our school values promote excellence and resilience; and we provide a learning and teaching environment built on respect, honesty and inclusion, which reflects our Gold Rights Respecting Schools accreditation.

We are seeking a motivated, skilled and enthusiastic teacher to join our Maths and Business faculty. The ideal candidate will be passionate about science and committed to inspiring students to achieve their full potential.

As part of our innovative approach to education, we have recently embarked on a 1 to 1 device digital journey. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience integrating digital skills into their teaching practice, enhancing both student engagement and learning.

You should be committed to further raising the attainment and achievement of all our pupils and be able to demonstrate an active interest in current educational developments. The successful candidate will be encouraged to contribute to the wider life of the school and to extend the range of extracurricular clubs on offer.

Further information about the school can be found at our website www.balernochs.edin.sch.uk or if you require specific information please contact the school by email or telephone on 0131 477 7788.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

We’re committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.
