The Equity Department ensures thoughtful engagement with relevant stakeholders, enabling impactful research and influencing policy and practice to: Ensure access to new health advances for those who need them most, with trust and confidence. Engage partners and communities equitably, incorporating their voices and experiences. Draw on diverse talent and expertise for impactful discoveries. Maintain an inclusive and welcoming organization. We are recruiting an Associate Director to lead the Equitable Research Practice team and provide strategic leadership to embed equity across Wellcome’s strategy, funding, and research activities globally, in partnership with other teams. Reporting to the Executive Director of Equity, the role oversees: Partnering, strategic guidance, and policy advice to Discovery and Solution Areas and Wellcome Collection. Developing and promoting equitable funding practices. Ensuring Wellcome\’s funding benefits those most affected by health challenges. Embedding diversity and inclusion in research design and supporting a broad range of researchers. Advancing health equity through Wellcome Collection’s practices and societal engagement. The role also involves coordinating efforts across Wellcome to embed equity in strategy, funding, and research, aligned with our Equity Framework. The minimum requirements are: Expertise in inclusion within research/funding, promoting a positive research culture, and embedding equity to drive systemic change. Proven leadership in managing large matrix teams, resource management, and fostering expertise, preferably in academic, funding, or charity settings. Strong ability to build relationships, influence senior stakeholders, and deliver strategic impact. Experience working in research/science, especially in the Global South, understanding research and funding contexts there.
