NRL are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Craftsperson to undertake the water system planned preventive maintenance and testing in Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham on a permanent basis. Salary is based on experience and suitability.

General Overview: To undertake the water system planned preventive maintenance, testing, breakdown maintenance and other maintenance related activities to the Estate. Working on a day shift from 0800 – 1600, Mon – Fri. The responsibilities will mainly be at the Acute Hospital but may also include duties at the Retained Estate and Mental Health unit. To undertake any reasonable duties to maintain all services to the NHS Trust(s). To carry out all works in compliance with KPIs.

Expectations within the role:

  • To perform the complete range of Mechanical Craftsperson (Water) tasks as required or directed by management.
  • To be knowledgeable of and to work to the current regulations, codes of practice, Health & Safety regulations, and all safety rules both the clients and Statutory.
  • To have a knowledge of water systems within a commercial/healthcare environment and maintenance/testing activities.
  • To have a knowledge of Legionella and other water pathogens.
  • To have a knowledge of water storage tank cleaning and disinfection.
  • To undertake temperature monitoring, shower head cleaning and disinfection, tank visual inspections, water samples, calorifier visual inspections, TMV servicing, to name a few.
  • Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings, and specifications appropriate to his/her own trade, without supervision.
  • Ensure all PPM work is carried out effectively in compliance with maintenance instructions.
  • Maintain records and logbooks, ensuring they are kept up to date and available for inspection.
  • To record information as required for the operation of Maximo or similar system.
  • To assist in ensuring that immediate corrective action is taken in the event of emergencies, so that the Trusts/client needs are met, to avoid danger to people, property, and service provision.
  • To undertake additional and continual training in job skills and techniques that may be required to meet personal and organisational aims.
  • To undertake any other duties as requested by Management, to comply with contact and KPIs.
  • To participate in the appraisal system.
  • After appropriate training, work off tower scaffolding, MEWPs, ladders, and step ladders and within confined spaces.
  • To be contacted by radio and/or PDA to receive instructions. This can involve frequent disruption to work patterns.

Qualifications or Required Experience:

  • Previous experience of working within a health care environment (desirable)
  • NVQ or C&G Level 2 Heating/Vent/Plumbing
  • Legionella/TMV/Disinfection awareness and training
  • HTM 04 RP/CP training (desirable)
