SF are recruiting for a Machine Shop Supervisor to join our established manufacturing client based in Kidderminster. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual who would like to join a progressing company. This role is based within an established Production department; therefore, a strong team player attitude is essential.
Summary of Job:
- To lead and be responsible for all aspects of the machine shop.
- To undertake machining duties, as required, in accordance with the company quality standards and best engineering working practices.
- To undertake activities in a timely and efficient manner in order to maintain company contractual delivery requirements.
- To assist, where required, in peripheral activities, e.g., assembly, packing, etc.
Staff relationship:
- Directly responsible to the Works Manager/Production Planning Manager.
- Liaises with all internal departments, as appropriate.
- Has proactive involvement with internal and external quality audits.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Shall be fully committed to the achievement of the company policies and objectives with attention to quality and safety.
- Responsible for carrying out duties in a safe, timely, economic, and effective manner.
- To ensure that the workshop is adequately equipped, and machinery and tools are well maintained through a planned maintenance schedule/safe to use.
- To ensure, where appropriate, that personnel are adequately trained and fully competent to carry out work delegated to them, in line with required quality and safety standards.
- Responsible for the maintenance and good housekeeping of the working area.
- To make recommendations, where appropriate, for improvements to existing working practices.
- To make recommendations for renewal/replacement of plant and equipment.
- Ensure production consumables are maintained at an adequate level.
- Authority to commit expenditure must be obtained from senior management.
- Ensure safe working practices are adhered to at all times; this applies to internal and visiting personnel.
- Demonstrate a flexible and positive approach to duties, which may be required from time to time.
- Undertake reasonable instructions and tasks from senior personnel, commensurate with the nature of the job and in the best interests of the company.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
- Must have experience supervising staff and organising all aspects of a machine shop.
- Must be experienced using machinery such as vertical/horizontal borers, lathes and drilling machines.
- Maths and English GCSE grade 4/5 (equivalent grade C equivalent) is preferable but not essential.
