The Chemical Safety and CoSHH Advisor will provide expert technical advice on the management of chemicals to support safety, health, fire, environmental protection, and emergency preparedness on a large, complex construction site. This includes coaching contract partners, managing chemical inventories, supporting transition to COMAH compliance, and ensuring appropriate emergency response measures are in place.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide chemical safety and CoSHH advice across health, safety, fire, environment, and emergency response teams.
- Manage and assure the site's chemical inventory in line with regulatory requirements, including COMAH.
- Develop arrangements for safe chemical storage and COMAH site operations.
- Review and assess contractor chemical use proposals, consulting with subject matter experts as needed.
- Coach contract partners to meet high chemical safety standards.
- Identify hazards requiring further mitigation or response and advise stakeholders.
- Support the development and implementation of an improved chemical management system.
- Assist with chemical risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
- Promote a Chemical Management Community of Best Practice.

Reports to the Site Environmental Engineering Lead. Operates with a high degree of autonomy, within established policy frameworks.

Qualifications & Experience

- Experience managing chemicals on active, complex sites.

- Experience in construction environments.
- Knowledge of waste classification and hazardous waste management.
- Understanding of environmental management and toxicology.
- Experience conducting DSEAR assessments.
- Familiarity with process safety principles.
