Chemical Safety and CoSHH Advisor

Job Title: Chemical Safety and CoSHH Advisor Overview The Chemical Safety and CoSHH Advisor will provide expert technical advice on the management of chemicals to support safety, health, fire, environmental protection, and emergency preparedness on a large, complex construction site. This includes coaching contract partners, managing chemical inventories, supporting transition to COMAH compliance, and ensuring appropriate emergency response measures are in place. Key Responsibilities Provide chemical safety and CoSHH advice across health, safety, fire, environment, and emergency response teams. Manage and assure the sites chemical inventory in line with regulatory requirements, including COMAH. Develop arrangements for safe chemical storage and COMAH site operations. Review and assess contractor chemical use proposals, consulting with subject matter experts as needed. Coach contract partners to meet high chemical safety standards. Identify hazards requiring further mitigation or response and advise stakeholders. Support the development and implementation of an improved chemical management system. Assist with chemical risk assessments and mitigation strategies. Promote a Chemical Management Community of Best Practice. Reporting Line Reports to the Site Environmental Engineering Lead. Familiar with workflow tools, PowerBI, and GIS. Experience in HAZMAT spill and environmental emergency response. Qualifications & Experience Essential Degree or equivalent in chemistry or related field. Formal training in chemical risk assessment (minimum P304). Experience managing chemicals on active, complex sites. Desirable Experience in construction environments. Knowledge of waste classification and hazardous waste management.
