We are looking to recruit an experienced Receptionist to join our Outpatients service at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. Candidates should be able to use their initiative, be proactive, and contribute to improving current working practices.

Main duties of the job

  • Operate from one of our 5 busy reception areas.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity, awareness of patients’ needs, and a commitment to improving the patient experience.
  • Be the first point of contact for patients, responsible for greeting, arranging appointments, and dealing with general inquiries.
  • Provide clinic administrative support for consultants, junior doctors, Allied Health Professionals, and nursing teams to ensure resources and services are delivered on time.
  • Maintain the Trust core values and ensure high standards of service and patient care are met and sustained.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills.
  • The ability to cope well under pressure and multi-task.
  • The competence to manage their own workload.
  • The ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • The ability to work as part of a motivated multidisciplinary team.

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, with Grade C or above in English and Maths.
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures, acquired through training and/or previous experience in an administrative environment.
  • Awareness of confidentiality requirements and knowledge of the Data Protection Act.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration, Customer Service, Healthcare Support Services, or equivalent qualification.

Experience

  • Experience of working in a non-routine environment, with demonstrable evidence of responding to queries and dealing with unpredictable situations.
  • Experience in a customer-facing environment, with knowledge of a comprehensive range of administrative procedures.
  • Previous NHS experience or experience in a healthcare setting.
