IPS Group are working on behalf of a leading name in the commercial insurance market who are currently looking to hire an experienced and technically strong property underwriter to step into a key role within their commercial underwriting function. This is an exciting opportunity to shape risk appetite, support governance, and influence strategy across a diverse commercial property portfolio without direct line management responsibilities. This role will suit either a Senior Property Underwriter stepping up to Underwriting Manager or an existing Underwriting Manager looking for their next challenge.
About the Role:
As Property Underwriting Manager, you'll play a central part in overseeing and advising on property-related underwriting risks and wordings. Reporting into the Director of Underwriting, you'll collaborate closely with senior underwriting and claims leaders to support business line profitability and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set and refine risk appetite for commercial property underwriting
- Oversee aggregation monitoring and reinsurance exposures
- Provide technical guidance on property underwriting risks (e.g., flood, crime)
- Work closely with underwriting teams to advise on risk selection, pricing, and governance
- Support senior underwriters with property-related issues
- Monitor and drive profitability across the property book (currently £40M GWP, £30B exposure)
- Engage with stakeholders at all levels from senior leadership to new underwriters
