Great career opportunity for an experienced mechanical Application / Design Engineer to join a global precision engineering / manufacturing business in South Nottingham. The role of Application Engineer will see you providing technical assistance to external customers and internal departments such as sales, manufacturing and quality on product changes and improvements. You may also visit customer sites when required.

This is a hybrid role with a 50/50% office to home policy (Tues and Wed are set office days), the rest can be flexed.

Experience with Polymers, Plastics and Elastomer design / manufacturing would be highly advantageous.

Salary and benefits:

  • £42k-£49k dependent on experience

Application / Design Engineer overview:

  • Recommend materials based on application criteria.
  • Generate and approve design proposals with customer requirements.
  • Conduct moderately complex design analysis on components and/or assemblies that may extend current product/material/manufacturing capabilities.
  • Assure product quality by defining testing/qualification/validation methods aligned with application requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of customer and industry technical requirements, and basic business acumen regarding the business impact of technical decisions.
  • Generate Product Performance analysis reports/documentation of returned products in order to determine modes of failure and areas of improvement to be made.

Application / Design Engineer skills and experience required:

  • 3-6 Years in Engineering or Design Environment
  • Experience using 3D CAD software (ideally Solidworks)
  • Knowledge of FEA systems preferred
  • Ability to work in cross-functional team environment
  • Effective communication skills with internal and external customers
  • Experience in Polymer, Plastics, Elastomer design/manufacturing preferred
  • Basic understanding of Lean 6 Sigma Principles, White Belt preferred
