Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs? Five Education is seeking adaptable and empathetic SEND Teaching Assistants to work across a range of mainstream primary schools in Cheltenham, providing support to children with Special Educational Needs. We have both day-to-day and long-term supply opportunities, making this ideal for those looking for flexible work or long-term placements. Many roles involve 1:1 support or small group work for children with needs such as Autism, ADHD, Speech & Language difficulties, or SEMH challenges.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-class support to children with SEND, helping them access the curriculum
  • Deliver targeted interventions or structured learning tasks
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive environment to support emotional regulation and social skills
  • Work under the guidance of the class teacher and SENDCo
  • Support with EHCP targets and differentiated learning

You’ll need to have:

  • Experience supporting children with SEND in an education or care setting
  • Confidence working with a range of needs, including Autism, SEMH, ADHD, or speech and language delays
  • A proactive, calm and empathetic approach
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexibility and a willingness to work in a variety of settings

Desirable but not essential:

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE, TA Level 2/3)
  • Experience with communication tools such as Makaton or PECS
  • Team Teach or other behaviour management training

Want to become a qualified TA or gain further skills in SEND? We’re working with a training provider offering a fully funded Level 2 Teaching Assistant course. This 4-week course gives you the knowledge and skills needed to work in schools and is ideal for developing a deeper understanding of SEND provision. On completion, you’ll gain:

  • NCFE Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools & Colleges
  • Level 1 Award in Securing Employment
  • Level 1 Certificate in Personal Social Skills
  • Level 1 Award in Personal Resilience & Perseverance
  • Level 1 Certificate in Securing Progression

Pay

Five Education operates a PAYE payroll - the most transparent way to be paid with no hidden fees such as admin charges or employer's NI. Please note, pay rate is illustrative and includes holiday pay.

Vetting

Five Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants will undergo checks including reference and TRA checks. If you do not have a non-voluntary enhanced DBS on the update service, a new DBS will need to be processed at a cost of £62.70, refunded after 20 days of work and once registered to the update service. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates, who are currently under-represented at this level.
