CPS Group UK are delighted to be working with a leading organisation in Cardiff to appoint a seasoned Data Centre Operations Engineer, specifically with technical proficiency in BMC Control-M scheduling and experience working in a Microfocus environment.
Working as part of a 4 on/4 off rotational shift team member, the Data Centre Operations Engineer will be required to work on-site, to a 12-hour shift pattern of both days and nights. Due to the nature of the work, the Data Centre Operations Engineer will require a valid UK driving license.
Role Responsibilities
- Systems monitoring and management
- Observing monitoring consoles and event driven alerts
- Coordinating with vendors when support calls are raised for assistance
- Respond to out of hours incidents effectively and promptly
- Taking corrective action for agreed and documented administrative systems
- Running & monitoring traditional batch schedules, including using automated tools (eg Control/M, Visualcron)
- Running release jobs/scripts to release development changes into production
- Physical management of Bulk Printing machines
- Daily removal of tapes and boxing up for off-siting
- Test access to systems to prove availability
- Ensure security and access procedures are maintained and followed
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in batch processing and job scheduling using BMC Control-M (or similar)
- Proven experience in a Data Centre/Comms Room environment
- Understanding of JCL
- Proficiency in Korn Shell Scripting
- Knowledge of Linux & Unix commands
- Basic knowledge of Oracle and associated database structures
- ITIL Fundamentals
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a 24/7 live environment
- Experienced in root-cause analysis and break-fix resolution
- Confident working both independently and as part of a dedicated support team
