Staff 86 | 86 Group are working with an established design and build business based in Chester. With a client base spanning across the UK, they have and continue to work on bespoke steel-based projects of all sizes, from million-pound contracts to smaller one-off projects. The business has big growth plans in the coming years, so the successful person will be joining at a crucial time, and you would be part of that growth!

  • Salary: In the region of £30k to £38k DOE
  • Location: Chester
  • Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Work Setup: Hybrid working after settling in period.

Overview of the role:

  • Lead the preparation of precise general arrangement (GA) drawings and detailed fabrication packs for a wide range of steel-based design and build projects.
  • Carry out in-depth material take-offs and quantify components from technical drawings and construction documentation to support accurate pricing, procurement, and efficient manufacturing.
  • Collaborate closely with in-house designers, structural engineers, and architects to create bespoke steelwork solutions that align with client briefs, functional requirements, and aesthetic expectations.
  • Ensure all design outputs meet current industry regulations and building standards, while consistently maintaining high levels of accuracy, quality, and presentation in all CAD deliverables.
  • Act as a key liaison across multidisciplinary teams including project managers, site teams, and external consultants to ensure smooth coordination from design through to installation and completion.

Required skills and experience:

  • UK driving licence and access to your own transport - essential due to the location of the office.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD or similar) – essential!
  • Proven experience in CAD drafting and steel detailing, preferably within a fabrication environment.
  • An understanding and passion for design, and structural and architectural steel design.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
