KGS is a modern, vibrant school around 850 pupils with a catchment area which covers Kirkwall, the East Mainland, Orphir and the North and South Isles. Around 60 of our young people are accommodated in Papdale Halls of Residence during term time.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled teacher who is committed to improvement and excellence, to lead our Social Subjects department. You will demonstrate effective leadership with a genuine interest in supporting young people to achieve their best. You will have a strong focus on positive outcomes for all young people through the development of high-quality learning and teaching and an inclusive curriculum.
Orkneyβs rich history, dynamic community and natural heritage offer many exciting opportunities to make learning relevant for young people in a fast-changing world. Currently we offer Geography, History, Modern Studies and RMPS.
You will be qualified in one of the social subjects and able to teach across all stages, including aspects of interdisciplinary learning. You will be joining a successful team and well-resourced school.
You must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland. This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with children.
Salary will be based on Point 6 on the Principal Teacher Spine of the SNCT Salary Tables plus a Distant Islands Allowance.
