D7 Recruitment are looking to recruit a Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor to join one of the UKs largest ground engineering companies. This will be a hands-on role working on multiple projects in the south of England and Inner M25 area. The ideal candidate will live within a reasonable daily commute distance, although some overnight stays may be required. The role is suitable for any health & safety professional with a pre-existing background in the construction and the rail industry.
As a Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor, you will work with clients and other key stakeholders and act as the main point of contact for all health and safety aspects within Piling, Housing and Rail divisions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To work alongside the management team to ensure UK law and HSE best practices are implemented.
- Instil and manage the health, safety and environmental processes, including risk assessments, method statements, internal audits and induction training.
- Promoting a proactive safety culture, engaging directly with the workforce.
- Inspecting work operations to ensure safe work practices are followed.
- Working under the guidance of the Senior HSE Manager.
- Advising site management on day-to-day health & safety matters.
- Building up a good rapport with clients and the workforce.
- Ensuring compliance with UK Health & Safety Legislation/CDM Regs/Client’s standards.
- Promoting and encouraging best practices.
- Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses and sharing lessons learned.
- Attending and chairing safety meetings.
- Delivering toolbox talks on health, safety and Environmental themes.
- Carrying out daily and weekly site inspections & HSE audits.
- Ensure RAMs are suitable and sufficient and the competencies and compliances are met.
- Assist the divisions from the pre-construction stage of a project to mitigate risk and assist with all legislative compliance for all contracts undertaken.
- To ensure workplace health, safety and environmental compliance, promoting a culture of safety through risk assessments, inspections.
Criteria:
- 2 years + of civil engineering/construction/rail background with proven skills.
- 2 years + experience in health and safety advisory roles within the construction or rail industry.
- Strong understanding of CDM regulations.
- NEBOSH National General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
- TechIOSH Technical member grade of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.
- Valid CSCS card.
- Strong knowledge of safety systems with a keen eye for detail.
- Ambitious and determined to succeed.
- Team-player capable of making a positive contribution to the company and are confident in doing so.
- Strong IT skills, with experience in using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Effectively managing your own priorities and meeting deadlines, in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to travel around the south of England and London area and hold a full, clean UK driver’s license.
Desirable but not essential:
- Personal track safety PTS
- Temporary works experience.
- PUWER Trained.
- CertIOSH or willing to work towards.
- Understanding of Facility management FM requirements.
