Principal Engineer (London)

We are looking for a Principal Engineer in our Product Engineering team. The role sits within our Core Services Engineering Group, leading one of the teams responsible for the cutting-edge platform our customers use to apply for Funding Circle’s class-leading term loan products.

The role involves:

• Excellent stakeholder-management skills and the ability to present technology solutions, risks and trade-offs to any audience across Funding Circle.
• Ensuring stakeholders understand the implications and opportunities of longer-term objectives, and setting teams up for delivering successfully against these.
• Accountability for high-level solution design and technology decisions within your Group.
• Performing deep-dives and troubleshooting issues where required, while enabling the teams rather than becoming a dependency for future issues.
• Working closely with other Technology functions, being responsible for the target system architecture for your group and accountable for its alignment with other groups.
• Championing strategy across Funding Circle and constructively challenging instances where it is not being followed.
• Sound commercial acumen and a solid understanding of how tech drives top line / bottom line.
• Coaching Lead Engineers within your Group, providing feedback on their solutions, and guardrails for making decisions.
• Identifying and acting on opportunities to collaborate across different Groups within Funding Circle.

What we’re looking for:

• Experienced Developers in at least one major Functional Programming language (E.g. Python, Clojure, Ruby, Scala, Elixir).
• A senior who is able to lead and influence architectural decisions whilst mentoring and up-skilling more junior members of the team.
• A strong fundamental programmer (data structures, algorithms).
• Familiar with developing on Unix/Linux.
• Knowledgeable of Agile, Scrum, BDD, TDD and CI/CD.
• Experienced in technical leadership.
• Experienced in delivering mission-critical, high-value products and services.
• Familiar with Agile Methodologies with a focus on TDD.
