We are currently looking for a Toolmaker to work in a manufacturing company based in Kempston.

Summary

To produce new tools (moulds) to customer specifications and to maintain existing tools (moulds) to a satisfactory standard.

Making Tools

  • To produce a pattern/model of the required part out of a variety of materials (e.g. wood, modelling board, metals etc) to meet customer specifications, working from technical drawings, plastic or plywood templates or from existing foam samples.
  • To produce a mould using wet lay or cast resin method.
  • To carry out welding to finish mould when required.
  • To fit pins, frames or other components into mould when needed.
  • To finish mould, polishing by hand, ready for production.
  • To apply paint or sealants where necessary.

Mould Maintenance

  • To repair moulds either in place on the track or in the workshop as required.
  • To make alterations to moulds when requested by Production.
  • Where Production experiences problems, to diagnose the cause of the problem and make the necessary alterations to rectify the problem.

General

  • To liaise with the Sales Department regarding new product development and provide input for the purpose of quoting for new tools.
  • To have a good understanding of tool manufacturing.
  • To maintain tooling workshop area to the required standard of tidiness and cleanliness.
  • To maintain safe working practices.
