This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Gas Trading professional to join a new gas trading team (backed by a global integrated oil business) working closely with other team members to develop and manage the optimisation of its gas trading portfolio across Europe. The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing in-depth gas market analysis with a focus on European gas markets, production and supply infrastructure, and will have an understanding of the European policy landscape that will impact the evolution of gas in Europe in the future. You will provide fundamental analysis, model development and scenario generation working closely with team members within the Gas Trading and Business Development department to develop and execute trading strategies, analysis and pricing of structured trading arrangements to increase the profitability of the gas trading business.
Responsibilities will include:
- Develop and execute the company’s pan-European Gas Trading strategies to maximise profitability for the business across NBP, TTF, THE, PEG, ZTP & PVB.
- Monitor European natural gas markets to identify trading opportunities.
- Develop and implement trading strategies to capitalise on market dynamics.
- Execute trades and manage positions in the gas market.
- Development and enhancement of European Gas Trading Models to support trading decisions and to manage risk/exposures for the gas trading desk.
- Analyse market trends, data, and trading strategies to provide valuable insights and recommendations for the gas trading business.
- Develop deal structuring, pricing and value creation for new 3rd party offtake and flow business deal generation and origination.
- Set up of the gas trading business including setup of trading infrastructure, negotiation of master trading arrangements (EFET, DMA), development of trading models and trading tools.
- Ensure timely and accurate order execution while adhering to risk management guidelines.
- Assess and manage risk exposure by using appropriate risk management tools.
- Maintain compliance with risk limits and company policies.
- Ensure timely updates of trade information into the trading system.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders (buyers, sellers, traders, brokers, pipeline and terminal operators & TSO’s), associates, internal departments and across the broader group.
EDUCATION
Be educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in a numeric discipline e.g. Engineering, Science, Economics, Finance, Mathematics or Statistics (or hold other relevant industry experience).
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- An in-depth understanding of the Supply and Demand fundamentals driving European Gas markets.
- Broad high-level knowledge of sectors that interact with gas markets – ETS, power, industry, refining, chemicals etc. (preferable)
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent analytical skills and a good attention to detail
- Excellent computer skills and advanced knowledge of Excel
- Programming proficiency in Python or another language is an advantage
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on an individual basis with limited supervision
- Able to cope with rapid business growth in a pressured environment
- Ability to prioritise and organise work
- Ability to work to numerous and frequent deadlines
