We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Waste Collection Driver in Huddersfield. This is a full-time role working Monday to Thursday, 10 hours a day, 40 hours per week.
Purpose of role: To collect waste from residential and commercial properties, driving vehicles up to and including HGVs in compliance with legal obligations and expectations for driver behaviour in line with Traffic regulations, the Highway Code and legislation for health and safety.
Working as part of a 2 or 3-man crew, you will be required to attend an induction and pass a driving assessment before you can start this role.
Duties:
- Driving a HGV Refuse Wagon
- Undertake duties of a refuse loader or other cleansing duties as needed
- Carry out daily vehicle checks and report any defects promptly
- Comply with the Council's health and safety procedures and policies
- The ability to undertake heavy lifting as you may need to assist with loading of the vehicle
- Supervise waste crews and manage their day-to-day operational functions (via paper records or electronic hand-held devices) including all Health & Safety relating to the daily tasks
- Undertake operational duties which will involve a wide range of physically and mentally demanding tasks in all weathers
- Ensure the completion of all daily tasks while ensuring the safety of employees, colleagues, and members of the public including children; you will be responsible for the safe collection of bins along your route
- Understand the operation of mechanical machinery to facilitate emptying of refuse containers
- Be responsible for the careful day-to-day use, cleanliness, maintenance, security of vehicles/plant, machinery, and equipment provided
- Be customer focused and deal with exchanges of information in a polite, courteous and positive manner responding to minor requests for service delivery and where necessary report problems to a supervisor or manager
- Be responsible for the Health and Safety of all employees under your direct supervision
Requirements:
- You will hold a valid LGV Class C licence and valid CPC to be able to drive vehicles up to 32 tonnes (e.g. HGV Class 2)
- Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
- Ideally refuse collection experience
- Banks man trained and able to move vehicles safely
- Ability to interpret maps, work schedules, make judgements in relation to collection or sweeping arrangements
- Ability to communicate with customers and colleagues on work delivery matters
- To hold or a willingness to undertake Manual Handling
- To hold or a willingness to undertake Needle Stick
- To hold or a willingness to undertake IOSH Working Safely
