Our client, a leading national firm with a top-tier marine practice, is looking to hire a talented and ambitious Shipping & Marine Insurance Litigation Associate to join their dynamic London team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the cutting edge of marine law – acting for insurers, shipowners, charterers, brokers, and financial institutions – and to contribute meaningfully to a broad range of both wet and dry shipping disputes and marine insurance claims.

The Role:

  • Assisting in the management of marine insurance claims across a range of classes – including hull, cargo, war risks, marine liability, yacht insurance, and mortgagee’s interest insurance
  • Handling wet claims (including salvage, collision, grounding, and general average)
  • Working on dry shipping disputes, including charterparty issues, ship sale and purchase, shipbuilding, and MOA disputes
  • Advising on coverage, managing defence and subrogation claims on behalf of leading marine insurers and reinsurers
  • Attending industry events and contributing to business development activities alongside partners

What We’re Looking For:

Essential:

  • Associate-level experience at a recognised shipping or insurance law firm
  • Strong technical grounding in marine insurance law and claims handling
  • Direct experience working on both wet and dry shipping disputes
  • Familiarity with LMAA arbitration and court litigation procedures
  • A confident, commercially-minded lawyer who is comfortable managing matters with autonomy and collaborating in a team setting

Desirable:

  • Interest in and/or experience with emergency response work and marine casualty investigations
  • Some experience in policy drafting or wording reviews
  • Strong client-facing skills and a willingness to be involved in the business development side of the practice

What’s on Offer:

  • The chance to join a Chambers-ranked team with a national and international reputation for excellence in marine law
  • Varied, high-calibre work with significant client contact
  • A strong platform for career development and promotion
  • Flexible, hybrid working model and supportive team culture
  • Competitive salary and benefits package
