We are seeking a skilled Earthworks Material Manager to join a leading team on a significant UK construction project. This opportunity involves working closely with project management, design teams, and client representatives to ensure all materials and earthworks adhere to specifications, industry standards, and project goals.
Role Overview
This position involves overseeing material classification, approvals, and testing while working alongside engineering and project staff to optimize workflow and maintain compliance with quality and environmental regulations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in materials testing and quality assurance, ensuring all earthworks operations run smoothly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality & Compliance: Manage laboratory and field testing, ensuring all materials meet project standards.
- Inspection & Testing Plans: Develop and review ITPs, ensuring compliance throughout construction.
- Material Classification: Oversee approval processes and compliance for excavated materials on site.
- Subcontractor Management: Coordinate material testing subcontractors and monitor performance.
- Issue Resolution: Identify, investigate, and resolve non-conformance issues proactively.
- Documentation & Reporting: Produce quality documentation, reports, and checklists to ensure compliance.
- Collaboration & Communication: Liaise with designers, clients, and engineers regarding material specifications.
- Health & Safety: Promote site safety and adherence to all regulations.
- Efficiency & Productivity: Support project management in optimizing daily activities while maintaining quality.
Candidate Profile:
- Degree in Civil, Structural, or Materials Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 5 years experience in earthworks and materials testing.
- Experience with UKAS Soils Laboratory testing (advantageous).
- Strong understanding of the Specification for Highway Works and material classifications.
- Relevant certifications including CSCS Card.
- Knowledge of HSQE regulations and compliance standards.
- Excellent record-keeping and data management skills.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Competence in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Self-motivated, proactive problem solver with attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Full UK driving licence required.
