IT Director (e-commerce)

IT Director Hybrid – 3 / 4 days on site Salary circa £120k + benefits depending on experience The Opportunity Fast-paced, growing ecommerce business looking for a hands-on IT Director from an ecommerce background to lead a full tech transformation. Systems are complex, with a mix of legacy and modern tech, minimal structure, and growing commercial demands. This is a high-impact role for someone who can drive technical and cultural change-bringing strategic direction, improved processes, faster delivery cycles, and the leadership needed to grow and structure a high-performing tech function. You will oversee everything from ecommerce platforms to internal admin tools, infrastructure and cyber security, while directly enabling performance in ecommerce, operations, and marketing. What You\’ll Do * Lead the overhaul of legacy systems (.NET, Classic ASP) to modern platforms (Laravel). * Define and deliver a tech roadmap that improves speed, stability, and scalability. * Build and manage a hybrid UK/India tech team across frontend, backend, and infrastructure. * Oversee IT infrastructure (Office 365, VPN servers, Zendesk, Digital Ocean, Cloudflare). * Drive cybersecurity, access control, disaster recovery, and data protection. * Align tech with commercial goals in ecommerce, ops, marketing, and customer service. * Lay the foundation for future data and analytics capabilities. Tech Stack * Backend: Laravel (primary), bespoke PHP, .NET, Classic ASP (legacy) * Frontend: JS/CSS stack with custom integrations * Hosting: Digital Ocean + Cloudflare * Support Systems: Zendesk, Trello (ad hoc), Office 365 * Infrastructure: Internal servers accessed via VPN What You Bring * Proven leadership in ecommerce or fast-moving tech environments. * Strong PHP/Laravel skills and experience phasing out legacy platforms. * Infrastructure and security know-how (hosting, cloud, cyber best practices). * Experience managing hybrid/offshore teams. * Strategic mindset with a pragmatic, delivery-focused approach
