Cloudera is looking for a talented and experienced engineering leader with a passion for building and shipping great software. As a key leader, you will be responsible for hiring and leading high-performing engineering teams while driving innovation in the Cloudera Data Engineering product area. This next-generation cloud-native service empowers customers to run large-scale data engineering workflows—using industry-standard tools like Apache Spark and Apache Airflow—with just a few clicks, across both on-premises and public cloud environments. As the Director Engineering, you will…
- Lead teams responsible for developing and maintaining cloud-native services across various environments
- Directly manage senior engineers and engineering managers who lead their own teams across multiple time zones
- Oversee a global team, many of whom are active contributors to open source communities like the Apache Software Foundation
- Own both technical direction and people management within the team
- Ensure consistent, high-quality software delivery through iterative releases
- Hire, manage, coach, and support career growth for team members
- Collaborate with engineering leadership, product management, and customers to set strategic goals and priorities
- Contribute to company-wide technical standards and best practices as part of the core engineering leadership team
We are excited if you have…
- BE, MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science or equivalent experience in the industry
- 10+ years of overall software engineering experience, with 5+ years in engineering leadership roles, including departmental or multi-team management
- Proven track record of leading large, geographically distributed teams (25+ engineers), including managers and senior-level contributors
- Deep expertise in designing and building large-scale, distributed systems in production environments
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts and strategic goals to diverse audiences
- Passionate about engineering excellence, with a strong point of view on building scalable, maintainable, and customer-centric software
- Ability to define technical direction, influence architectural decisions, and guide long-term technology strategy
