Reed’s client are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Engineering department. This role involves designing a wide range of bespoke products, ensuring compliance with client specifications, legislative requirements, quality, and HSE standards. The ideal candidate will work independently or as part of a team to develop new or existing products that meet the mechanical technical requirements of form, fit, and function.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Develop customer requirements and understand their potential implications to the business.
- Develop concept solutions and support discussions to compare and contrast different options, seeking input from manufacturing, supply chain contacts, and project teams.
- Further develop selected concepts into detailed definition drawings.
- Prepare engineering calculations to support detailed design schemes.
- Present designs at design reviews as required.
- Participate in research and development activities.
- Carry out site survey activities occasionally.
- Use IT packages effectively in engineering activities (Excel, Word, Mathcad, CAD, PDM, PLM, etc.).
- Interpret engineering drawings and implement engineering specifications and standards.
- Manage project timescales to achieve or improve deadlines.
- Provide progress status reports to line management regularly.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Mechanical Engineering Degree (or equivalent) is essential.
- Experience in a responsible mechanical engineering position.
- Understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
Desirable qualifications include:
- A Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control.
- Good grades in Advanced level mathematics and physics.
- IMechE corporate membership.
- IOA membership.
Desirable experience includes:
- Working to structural design codes.
- Knowledge of acoustic and noise control principles.
- Design of fabrication details.
- Familiarity with European directives such as the Machinery directive and ATEX.
