We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Legal Biller to join our accounts team, focusing on billing for our Commercial & Technology department. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and processing client bills in accordance with the firm's guidelines. This role demands strong organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Take ownership of the billing processes within the Commercial & Technology department, managing the end-to-end billing process in line with the firm’s policies and HMRC/SRA rules.
  • Produce billing guides, narrative generation, WIP reports, write-offs, transfers, and credit notes.
  • Handle internal billing queries professionally and diligently.
  • Manage disbursements, including counsel's fees and foreign law firms, ensuring they are recorded against the right files.
  • Address all payment queries from counsel's clerks and foreign law firms regarding the payment of invoices.
  • Run weekly WIP reports for all partners and proactively work with them to bill the WIP.
  • Liaise with compliance on file opening and assist in arranging necessary AML documentation.
  • Take ownership of e-billing processes for relevant clients and assist with preparing billing schedules.
  • Work closely with the Finance team and all members of aligned groups to streamline and improve billing-related processes.
  • Liaise proactively with EAs and LSTs within aligned groups for billing instructions and manage discussions to put specific billing arrangements in place.
  • Lead efforts to transition billing responsibilities from Legal Secretaries and Executive Assistants to the Client Administration team.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Prior junior legal billing experience, preferably in a legal or professional services environment.
  • Experience with billing trade mark applications and associated disbursements.
  • Strong numeracy, accuracy, and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to build and maintain working relationships and operate effectively as part of a team.
